FLORENCIA ALVARADO

Interpreting in the modern world.

Florencia Alvarado (Maracaibo, Venezuela) is a Venezuelan visual artist, photographer, and designer currently based in New York. Her artistic practice delves into the deconstruction of the photographic image, utilizing digital art, collage, scanned images, and still life photography to explore the boundaries between reality and abstraction. Alvarado’s innovative approach invites viewers to reconsider how images are created, consumed, and interpreted in the modern world.

In addition to her work as a visual artist, Alvarado is a Co-editor and Founder of WMN Zine, a lesbian publication recognized for its contributions to LGBTQ+ representation and awarded the Queens Funding for the Arts Grant twice. Through WMN Zine, Alvarado has championed voices within the lesbian community, fostering creative expression and providing a platform for marginalized perspectives. Her interdisciplinary work continues to push the limits of artistic experimentation while remaining deeply connected to her roots and identity.
